Lost World Returns here I come!

So some stuff has been going on. I was accepted as a member of the Lost World Returns mod team using the Crysis Engine. I'm super excited about this. It's pretty much been a dream of mine to be on a mod team ever since I started to truly love 3D. So there you have it kids, dreams do come true :) In any case, here are some screen shots from the test object I was to create during my trial period. Also, before I forget, here is a link to the Lost World Returns website.

Senior Project Planning Idea _ The Gnome Hunter!

Hey all! I know I said every other day. I have failed you all! But guess what, all will be well, I'm posting some concept sketches for my Senior Project Planning class. Let me give you all a little back-story on what I'm doing here so you'll understand the concepts a little better. (I know concepts need to speak for themselves, but I have to at least you give you the setup)

So the whole idea of the class is to find a project that you would essentially get portfolio pieces out of to show potential employers. The direction you decide to go in should reflect which type of company you'd want to get employed by. In other words, the thought process would be that fantasy, low-poly, painted textures done really well might land you a job with Blizzard. I personally don't know where I want to work, I have no real dream job, other than working for EA on the FIFA series.

With that being said, I went with my favorite genre, Hi-Fantasy. I'm going to try to keep it hyper realistic though with the style of modeling & texturing. My Idea is to do a Big Game Gnome Hunter's trophy room / den. His little house is made inside the trunk of a tree high in the canopy where he spot animals on the ground from his balcony with his telescope. Once spotted he then uses the harpoons guns to zip cord from branch to branch down the tree, or hops onto one of his hang gliders and hunts the animal this way. Back inside of his den the gnome has all of his hunting equipment, and pieces of animals he's hunted from around the area. Such as a rattlesnake head, a giant wasp head, a lizard claw, a scorpions tale, a rhino beetle carapace, just to name a few. Some Ideas my teacher has given me was to have cages in which the hunter has captured a few animals as well outside where the hang gliders are. Also to put more windows in the room to show that its a tree, this might changes the shape of my room a little, so the concepts you are seeing are just preliminarily sketches.

Mayan Temple UT2004

Here is the first attempt at creating a level in Unreal 2004. My idea for this level was that this Mayan Temple that had been long forgotten in a cave in the jungles was now the bases for a war between two sides, in other words, a Capture the Flag map. I had big eyes for this but little time of course, though I did get my water falls in, and my temple with the lake! Check out the screen shots.

Egyptian Pillar

Another little update. Here is a pillar I did really quick, it was to show off my ability to take a low poly object into Zbrush and make it look good. Its an Egyptian pillar, something you might fin hidden underground in a pyramid in the desert.

As Promised

So here we go! I'm going to try to blog every other day for the next month or so, or until I am out of stuff to show you guys, or write about.

My first project is from the Winter Quarter Jan08-March08. Its a small CTF level built for the Unreal 2004 engine. Here are some concepts I did for the village, and a few screens of the village in the UT2004 editor.

I have no clue if anyone actually reads these, but if you do, please comment with whether or not you want more written about the pieces of less. I only ask because as you may have noticed I can write a lot without even knowing I am doing it.
Thanks for your comments guys!

The Dawn of a New Age!

I understand that I haven't posted in ages. I swear it's not that I don't love the 4 or 5 people that comment, it's because of how busy I have been. So let me get you all up to date with my life.

Since my last post not much as changed, I went on a couple of trips to Florida, worked on a lot of school projects, and pretty much kept life the same. That is until the beginning of January I started my new job as a librarian assistant at my school, the Art Institute of California San Diego (mouthful.) In March I moved out of my place in North Park, it was a very tough decision. However I needed a change, so I moved in with my school buddy Dylan, we live in Mission Valley right underneath the 805 bridge in some apartments. To add to this new change of scenery I decided to take my tax return and blow it all on a new Dell XPS 420, a much needed tool (seeing how I haven't bought a new computer in 6 years.)

So I guess you're all caught up. I'll post more now, with some screens of some of the past quarters works. I wanted to delete all my old posts, but, something inside me told me that it's always good to see where we've come from, to know where we are going.

It's all about that Piano Black Finish!

Minotaur_Almost

I know everyone is wondering what I've been doing the past month or so. Here it is, I think I will throw some more armor on it around the leg areas, However other than that the low poly is pretty much done with. Now for some unwrapping, and Zbrush action! Maybe if I have time this quarter I'll hit it up with a Biped so he doesn't look like he's ready for take off.

SIGGRAPH

Congratulations! The 2007 SIGGRAPH Student Volunteers Committee is pleased to accept your application for this year's Student Volunteers Program. This is your official acceptance letter. The process for selecting volunteers has finally come to an end after much review. Your application was among more than 900 applications reviewed this year, of which fewer than 400 were selected. This year's applications were especially impressive, which made for a very competitive program. We could not accept all applicants, so unfortunately even some very good applications were not accepted. We are pleased that you are among the group selected to join our team of Student Volunteers at SIGGRAPH 2007! Please be on the lookout for another e-mail in the next few weeks that will contain your unique login and password to the SV system, which will give you access to the official acceptance/confirmation form, as well as other important information that you will need to prepare for your San Diego SIGGRAPH adventure. Information on housing and Travel Assistance Awards will not be available until after that time. Congratulations again on your acceptance. The Student Volunteers Committee and I look forward to working with you over the next several months! Best regards, Matylda Czarnecka ------------------------------

Hard Surface and Organic Modeling Assignment 2

So for assignment two of my Maya modeling class we had to create a character. This is my first class in Maya, and I like the approach the teacher is taking, basically he figures we know what’s going on already and is speeding right along. Here is my character, after about 3 different scrapped models I finally started and finished this Treekin model.

(DISCLAIMER)
This model is from a concept sketch from the MMORPG Warhammer Online. I take no ownership in the creation of the concept art for this Treekin, only the 3d modeling. I wanted to create something that was created for a video game because in the future it is what I will be doing for a living.

THE NEW QUARTER

So the new quarter has started form Art Institute. I currently am taking 4 classes, which I gotta say are pretty cool.

Class one: 3D modeling and animation a 3ds max class where we will be taking the concept of one of 5 D&D monsters and build a model from it. Choices are: Koa-Toa (frog dude), Jackalwere (jackal that turns into a human unlike the werewolf that a human turns into a wolf), Githyanki (humanoid with a fishy face) Bugbear (humanoid badger + bear look), and last but not least there’s the Minotaur (bull + human)

I just thought I would put that there in great detail to see what everyone thought about what I should model. I personally wanna do the Minotaur in some sweet battle armor. (before anyone comments on what I should do, let it be known there are guide lines, and these models should stay in the realm of D&D and not stray at all from what they really are or who they are).

The other classes are: Storyboard for Animation (I really am interested in this stuff, so I’m excited), Organic and Hard Surface modeling (seems like a intro to MAYA class), and the last is Magic and Rituals (the anthropology of Magic and Rituals).

I'll leave this post with a few renders of the first assignment from Organic and Hard Surface Modeling. Basically just had to do a quick spaceship, it is from one of my favorite shows, Battlestar Galatica (the new one).
